Placerville was founded during the California Gold Rush. In fact, the gold that kickstarted The Gold Rush was discovered just a few minutes away in Coloma, CA. Placerville has a lot of history being one of the oldest towns in the entire state. The newspaper, for example, the Mountain Demcrat, is the oldest newspaper in California.

A favorite feature of El Dorado County, is just how much it has to offer. 5 minutes from Placerville is Apple Hill, home of the best apple and fruit orchards in California. Apple Hill has a huge tourist season in the Fall when the leaves of all the trees change colors. Plus, many go to pick out pumpkins for Halloween or enjoy the delicious ciders, apple beers, and wine.

The El Dorado National Forest is a fabulous hiking and camping destination and a wonderful way to explore and experience nature.

Placerville is known for its ‘cute’ Main Street, and has been featured in many national outlets. There are a magnitude of restaraunts, brewers, and shops to satisfy anyone.

And how can we forget about Lake Tahoe. About an hour up Highway 50 from Placerville is one of the most scenic places, not just in El Dorado County, but in the entire world: Lake Tahoe. Great skiing, too!
